VENICE SCREENWRITING FESTIVAL
RULES & TERMS

Read before you submit.

Read these terms before you enter the Venice Screenwriting Festival. Submitting your script on FilmFreeway means you accept all of them.

  1. 01The festival is open to writers everywhere. Members of the jury, the festival team, sponsors and anyone connected to them, close family included, cannot enter the competition.
  2. 02Send your script as a PDF or as a Microsoft Word document. Industry-standard screenplay formatting is recommended, not required.
  3. 03Write in English or in Italian. An Italian script needs an English title and logline on the entry form, so that every member of our international jury can assess it.
  4. 04Your title page may carry your contact details, a WGA registration number or the name of your representation. Anonymous scripts are just as welcome and are judged in exactly the same way.
  5. 05Name every writer of the script on the entry form; a “Written by” credit on the file itself is up to you. Entering confirms that each co-writer agrees to the submission. Awards, laurels and prize packages go to the writer who made the entry, who shares them with the rest of the team.
  6. 06Entering confirms that the script is your own original work and that it does not infringe anyone else's copyright, intellectual property or personal rights.
  7. 07You keep every right to your script, all of it, before, during and after the festival.
  8. 08Your script is read by our jury and our partner evaluators only. Nobody else receives it without your permission.
  9. 09An entry cannot be swapped for a newer draft once it is in. To send a revised version, make a new submission.
  10. 10Entries come in through FilmFreeway only and must be complete by the deadline shown there. Late entries cannot be taken.
  11. 11Entry fees are not refunded once a submission is complete.
  12. 12The selection committee and the jury decide at their discretion, and their decisions are final.
  13. 13If the programme calls for it, the festival may change deadlines, notification dates, awards or categories. Any change is announced by email and on our channels.
  14. 14Entering means you accept these terms and agree to hear from us about the festival, its events and opportunities across our festival network. Your contact details are never sold, and never passed to anyone without the right to them.
  15. 15We may use your script's title, logline and short excerpts, and your public biography and photo, to announce and promote the festival and its selections.
